DCM Building Design were engaged to design a signature Aquarium Design in the centre of the newly renovated Whitsundays Airport in Proserpine, North Qld. Collaborating with world renowned Advanced Aquarium Technologies, we were able to achieve a truly amazing exhibit to display as a welcoming to the Whitsundays Region within the Airport. Although the logistics and infrastructure planning was a challenge, what has resulted is a very functional and important showcase aquarium giving visitors some reference to the Great Barrier Reef and the region. With multiple viewing opportunities both externally and internally within the tank, this aquarium maintained a line of sight through the feature heart reef coral theming to ensure the airports requirements of seeing departure gates was achieved whilst also being a feature of the design. We were very proud to win multiple design awards including Best Special Project and Commercial Design of the year at the Building Design Queensland Regional and State Design Awards.
