The design brief was for a modern beach home aesthetic with 4 bedrooms and a generous open plan living area. The client wanted the main bedrooms upstairs along with a home cinema, and the living level with a guest room and home office on the ground floor.

The main challenge with this project was the site shape and ensuring we addressed the northern aspect and incorporated passive design principles. We were able to achieve this with the living areas and master suite facing north, and the introduction of a large void to the core of the building to assist with winter sun penetration.

The cross ventilation, abundance of natural light and winter sun penetration combined with the colour scheme and interior design really complimented the beach home aesthetic.

The result has been a wonderful interpretation of the traditional beach home that the clients love, commenting that DCM turned their ideas into “exactly what we were after to suit our dreams”.
