Our brief from client on this project was to design a detached addition to the property that would contain 10 x spaces for their luxury car collection as a showroom in combination with a lounge, games and bar area. This combination of residential showroom for the clients luxury cars and entertaining space was to be located on the side of Mt Cootha with amazing views to the North from the side of the mountain.

The severe slope to the site presented a real challenge but we were able to use this constraint to our benefit. Given the value of the luxury cars within the garage, the client liked our idea of burying the building into the hill so that from the street it wasn't really prominent or visible. With a brief to have a concealed/hidden garage door via separate driveway on the western side and to then incorporate floor to ceiling glazing to the northern views and high raked ceilings. The client also wanted the end car space to have a rotating lift and workbench for vehicle inspections and servicing.
